*The Ravens have inked a record-setting $260 million deal with quarterback Lamar Jackson, locking him in with a 5-year contract extension and $185 million in guarantees.
As TMZ reports, Jackson is now the highest-paid player in NFL history. In March, he requested a trade out of Baltimore after a nonexclusive franchise tag was placed on him. At the time, Jackson claimed the Ravens were not “interested in meeting my value”.
Following months of heated negotiation, the team announced Thursday that Jackson is staying put.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter first shared the news, writing on Twitter, “The two sides still are “working through language” but Lamar Jackson and Baltimore Ravens deal “will get done”, per league sources. Baltimore will keep its quarterback.”

Jackson reacted to the deal via the Ravens’ announcement video posted to Twitter.
“You know, for the last few months, there’s been a lot of he’s said, she’s said,” he said. “A lot of nail biting, a lot of head scratching going on, but for the next five years, it’s a lot of flock going on. Let’s go baby. Let’s go. Let’s go man. Can’t wait to get there. Can’t wait to be there. Can’t wait to light up M&T for the next five years, man. Let’s get it.”
Many sports fans shared their excitement to the news on social media, others were not so kind. One person tweeted, “I see a lot of “we winning the Super Bowl” comments here…..he’s been on your team, and you haven’t won a thing….he’s been hurt a bunch, too, no?”
Another person added, “There goes any chance of the ravens winning a super bowl. This and the Watson deal are by far THE worst NFL contracts to date.”
“Lamar doesn’t deserve Jalen Hurts money he hasn’t led his team to a Super Bowl. 32/32 GMs would take Hurts over Lamar,” commented another.
Of course, plenty of Jackson supporters commented under the Ravens video, as one Twitter user noted, “Lamar Jackson makes clear you don’t need an agent to negotiate a long term, high-priced contract. Who’s laughing now?”
Another said, “As a UCF Knight, I watched Lamar, not only do amazing things ON the field, but also be an amazing person off it. WAY TO GO LAMAR!”
