*To put it bluntly, former ESPN broadcaster Jemele Hill is unimpressed with the way YouTuber Bobbi Althoff conducts her interviews.
The journalist has also turned the heat on the rappers who still accept to be interviewed by the YouTuber. Jemele was particularly irked by Bobbi Althoff’s recent interview with Migos rapper Offset.
“I don’t find these types of interviews particularly enjoyable or interesting,” Jemele posted on X (formerly Twitter). “Instead it just sadly points out how real hip-hop journalism has been practically erased.”
She added that some of the media teams behind these artists aren’t interested in them sitting down with credible people who know how to tell stories and do quality interviews.
“Then they wonder why an artist’s real story goes untold, neglected or that artist is misunderstood,” she pointed out.

Of course, Jemele Hill’s tweet drew responses on the social platform, with one user pointing out that Offset’s team scheduled the interview to help the rapper gain more exposure in his career.
Hill then responded, stating that Offset didn’t need an interview with Althoff for exposure because he could sit down for an interview with anyone
Offset could sit down with anybody and people will be watching. He doesn’t need to lean on someone else’s popularity.

But Hill is not the first one in recent times to address the issue of hip-hop artists neglecting the Black community. As recently as July, famous radio host Ebro Darden accused Canadian superstar Drake of not supporting his fellow Black people or condemning the problems they usually face.
Ebro attacked Drake shortly after the latter was slammed by magazine journalist/editor Elliott Wilson for agreeing to be interviewed by YouTuber Bobbi Althoff.
Ebro wrote, “Moment of clarity: No disrespect to Lil Boat. Yachty’s convo with The Boy was comfy and had some cool moments. I was more so clowning the comedy shenanigans with outsiders to our culture. It would be great to hear Drake speak to us again. Even if it ain’t me.”
But as the adults in the room criticize the likes of Althoff, many rap stars continue to line up to be interviewed by her. Musicians like Lil Yachty and Tyga are some of the celebrities who have indicated they don’t mind being interviewed by Althoff. Well-known Black stars such as Jason Derulo and Shaquille O’Neal have also graced Althoff’s platform. Althoff has 855,000 YouTube subscribers and 2.6 million Instagram followers. This clearly explains why these stars would rather sit with her than with a fellow Black interviewer with no large following online. After all, music is business.
