‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ is a Joyous Ride – But ‘Kracken’ Capsizes | WatchTrailers

*“Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” is a relentless joyride and family fun. Viewers need not have to worry about nudity and soft porn that has unfortunately saturated too many movies, along with asinine fart jokes, and F-bombs.

Fedora-wearing Harrison Ford brings his trusty whip and continues to kick ass in “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.”

I’m surprised the whip doesn’t have a name. Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) named his weapon of choice in “The Walking Dead,” Lucille.

It’s 1969, and Indiana Jones (Indy) is ready to retire. Having spent more than a decade teaching at New York’s Hunter College, the esteemed professor of archaeology is preparing to call it quits. However, things change after a surprise visit from his uncouth, estranged goddaughter Helena (Phoebe Waller-Bridge).

She is looking for a rare artifact that her father entrusted to Indy years earlier—the infamous Archimedes Dial, a device that purportedly holds the power to locate fissures in time.

Time is definitely on Indy and Harrison’s side because both have stood the test of time. Last week on my way to an appointment waiting for my train to arrive, I heard John Williams’ theme song blasting over the loudspeakers at the train station. I expected to see Harrison Ford galloping from the tunnel chasing a felon. Yes, there is a scene in the film of Indy riding a horse underground.

Directed by James Mangold, the film also stars Antonio Banderas, John Rhys-Davies, Shaunette Renée Wilson, and Thomas Kretschmann.

‘Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken’

One of the most famous catchphrases to come out of a movie is “Release The Kraken,” from the 1981 film, “Clash of the Titans.” What made it so noteworthy was the hideousness and viciousness of the Kraken monster—it took no prisoners.

In “Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken,” we are made to believe that 16-year-old Ruby Gillman (Lana Condor) is a harmless sea monster desperate to fit in at Oceanside High.

Evil mermaid Chelsea Van Der Zee (Annie Murphy) tries to kill Ruby Gillman (Lana Condor) in DreamWorks Animation’s Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken, directed by Kirk DeMicco.

Ruby is prevented from hanging out at the beach because her over-protective mom (Toni Collette) has forbidden her from ever getting in the water. But when she breaks her mom’s #1 rule, Ruby discovers she is a direct descendant of the warrior Kraken queens. The Kraken are sworn to protect the oceans of the world against the vain, power-hungry mermaids who have been battling with the Kraken for eons.

The storyline and style do not float. If you want to visit “under the sea,” go see “The Little Mermaid” instead.

Directed by Kirk DeMicco, “Ruby Gillman” is also voiced by Annie Murphy, Sam Richardson, Liza Koshy, Will Forte, Jane Fonda, Jaboukie Young-White, Echo Kellum, and Nicole Byer.
