*Drake fans are calling him out for seemingly taking a dig at jazz star Esperanza Spalding in his new track “Away From Home.”
As HITC reports, in the second verse, Drake sings: “Four GRAMMYs to my name, a hundred nominations/ Esperanza Spalding was gettin’ all the praises.”
The song appears on his new album “For All The Dogs,” and some fans believe the verse highlights the rapper’s pettiness. Drake and Spalding were nominated for the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 2011, which she won. Drake appears to still be bitter about the loss.
As HITC reports, fans are calling Drake “pathetic” for dissing the Jazz star. One social media user wrote: “Drake dissing Esperanza Spalding, who started playing an instrument when she five and justifiably won best new artist in 2011 over him, is nothing short of pathetic. There’s a huge difference between an entertainer and an artist.”
“I’m taking the Esperanza Spalding diss personally because only one of these artist have pushed the boundaries of their genre and is important to music,” said another, per the article.
A third person added: “Drake needs to educate himself on Esperanza Spalding. She is still releasing quality music & has won FIVE Grammys (including one last year). And she’s teaching at her alma mater & passing her gifts on to others. She’s a real one!”
