*Dr. Yusef Salaam, a member of the Exonerated Five, announced today (02-04-23) that he’s throwing his hat into the ring and running for New York City Council.
Dr. Salaam will formally start his campaign Saturday for the 9th district, which represents parts of Harlem, Morningside Heights and the Upper West Side.
In 1990, as the whole world recalls, Salaam was wrongly convicted in the Central Park jogger case. His conviction was rescinded in 2002.
Since his release, Salaam has worked as a criminal justice advocate and serves as a board member for the Innocence Project.
