*During his recent appearance on “The Joe Budden Podcast,” Dr. Umar Johnson went on a wild rant about Kobe Bryant’s widow.
Johnson expressed frustration with Vanessa Bryant, who is Mexican-American, for not using her late husband’s fortune to build up Black communities.
“Vanessa inherited his wealth and guess what? Is Vanessa Bryant using any of that Black man’s money to do any good in the Black community? Absofu*kinlutely not,” Johnson stated on the broadcast.
“Vanessa Bryant just started an initiative with three predominantly white colleges, some sort of sports initiative, with Kobe’s money and Kobe’s name. Didn’t choose a single HBCU with a Black man’s money,” he added.
The Los Angeles Lakers perished in a helicopter crash in January 2020 along with his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, and seven others. Kobe and Vanessa were married for 19 years and had four daughters.

Kobe reportedly had an estimated wealth of $600 million at the time of his death.
“Expecting white women to use Black money to help Black people, how is that unfair?” Dr. Urmar Johnson said on the podcast.
One X/Twitter user commented, “Vanessa Bryant is NOT BLACK so why he looking for her to put money into the community smh,” To which another user responded, “Well all of kids are black. Although u are right, she’s not black. But hopefully her children get in touch wit their black side, and do stuff for black communities sometime in the future. It’s only right, and def something Kobe would approve of.”
A third person added, “Them folks have no obligation to help out the BLACK community.”
“Kobe grew up around a diverse cast of people, from Italians to whites and blacks….he did not view the world in black and white,” another user posted.
Several social media users agree with Johnson and are just as disappointed that “A Black man’s wealth is leaving the black community,” one X user wrote.
