*Denzel Washington and Antoine Fuqua are reuniting again to develop the “Hannibal” drama for Netflix.

The dynamic duo first teamed on “Training Day,” “The Equalizer” and “The Equalizer 2.”  Fuqua will direct the “Hannibal” film based on a script by John Logan, with Washington also producing. It’s not yet clear what the actor’s role is in the movie based on the real-life warrior.

Fuqua’s upcoming “Hannibal” film is part of his first-look partnership with Netflix. The director inked a deal with the streaming giant in 2021 after the success of the drama “The Guilty,” starring Jake Gyllenhaal.

“Working with Netflix on The Guilty was such a rewarding experience, both from an artistic and collaborative point of view,” said Fuqua in a statement, per Deadline. “I’m beyond excited to continue this relationship and expand our slate of films with a partner that shares our vision at Hill District Media.”

Netflix previously said, “Antoine is an impactful storyteller who believes art can create meaningful change in the world. We had a great collaboration with him on The Guilty and look forward to telling many more stories together in the future.”

Fuqua’s Netflix deal will focus primarily on films and documentary features.

The filmmaker announced in 2021 the renaming of his production company to “Hill District Media,” previously titled “Fuqua Films.” The name change “emphasizes his background and roots that translate to his work on the screen,” per Netflix.

Meanwhile,  as we reported, Washington reprised his role as Robert McCall for the third installment in “The Equalizer” action movie franchise, which hit theaters in September.

Per the official movie synopsis, “Since giving up his life as a government assassin, Robert McCall (Washington) has struggled to reconcile the horrific things he’s done in the past and finds a strange solace in serving justice on behalf of the oppressed. Finding himself surprisingly at home in Southern Italy, he discovers his new friends are under the control of local crime bosses. As events turn deadly, McCall knows what he has to do: become his friends’ protector by taking on the mafia.”

According to Urban Hollywood 411, Sony Pictures said this is “the final chapter” of the “Equalizer” franchise.

As TheWrap reports, “The Equalizer 2” earned $190 million at the box office in 2018 compared to “The Equalizer” which earned $193 million in 2014. The third film earned $185,816,406 worldwide.
