*Monday’s entire broadcast of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” was filmed on a New York City subway, which gave one of the show’s regular segments, Freestylin’ With the Roots, an extra layer of authenticity.
During non-subway shows back in the studio, the segment features the Roots improvising songs about chosen audience members based solely on a brief interview with Fallon. The lyrics are written on the spot by lead rapper Black Thought.
