*Since it was published in 1965, “The Autobiography of Malcolm X” has sold millions of copies around the world, and it will now reach a new audience with the Audible release of an unabridged audio version.

Ilyasah Shabazz, the third daughter of Malcolm X and Betty Shabazz, said she hopes the audiobook, performed by actor Laurence Fishburne, “will inspire today’s activists and create a shared understanding with the civil rights leaders of the 1960s.”

“His life resonates with so many people who find themselves at a crossroads, especially young people in underserved communities,” Shabazz told NBC News. “When you have people who are weary — whether they are young or they are old — with the way that our system works, they seemed to find a lot of solace in it.”

“The book invites a full assessment of Malcolm’s life, it offers a reassessment of what people thought of him,” said Zaheer Ali, a historian and senior fellow at the Pillars Fund, a Muslim American philanthropic organization.

“The book became almost the sacred text of the Black Power movement,” Ali added. “It was almost like the bible, if you will, for many people, especially many young people, who were moving into the Black Power phase of the Black freedom movement.”

He also noted that the book’s publication came “at a time where the civil rights movement itself was being transformed,” with the passing of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act in 1965.

“It’s not just a historical book, it’s a hero’s journey of struggling with white supremacy,” said Margari Hill, the executive director of the Muslim Anti-Racism Collaborative. “While it ended in tragedy with his assassination it also showed his power. Why were people so afraid of him? What were they trying to uphold?”

Babysitter in ‘Borat 2’ Feels ‘Betrayed’ After Being Tricked to Appear in Sequel, Launches GoFundMe

Borat Babysitter

*A professional babysitter who makes an appearance in “Borat 2” claims she was tricked into participating in the film and now she feels betrayed.

Jeanise Jones, 62, was recruited for the comedy to babysit Tutar (Maria Bakalova), the 15-year-old daughter of Borat (played by Sacha Baron Cohen).

She  is tasked with teaching Tutar about modern women of the world, and that females are not born to be uneducated servants  and slaves (how ironic a Black woman was hired for this lesson). Jones also encourages Tutar not to undergo plastic surgery purely at her father’s behest.

Jones thought she was signing up to appear in a film about women’s rights. She had no idea Baron Cohen was a world-famous comedian when she was asked to participate in the mockumentary. She also believed Tutar was on her way to being  sold into the sex trade.

“I’m feeling like she’s from the Third World and that kind of stuff does happen where they sell women,” Jones told Page Six. “I’m thinking this is for real so I felt kind of betrayed by it.”

She continued: “They told me it was a documentary for this young lady to understand she has rights and she can do whatever a man can do. I felt pain for her and tried [to see] if there’s any way we can get through to her that she doesn’t need to do all that.”

Jones was found by the Borat 2 production team through the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Oklahoma City in which she volunteers, and was paid $3,600 to participate.

She now claims to be out of work due to the COVID pandemic and her pastor has launched a GoFundMe campaign

In a Facebook post on Sunday, Jones said that she did not “know this was a satirical comedy movie and that I was being ‘setup.'” In an interview with the New York Post, Jones said she felt “betrayed.”

Javicia Leslie: First Look at Actress in Redesigned ‘Batwoman’ Suit

Batwoman

*The CW has served up the first full look at Javicia Leslie as the new Batwoman in the brand new, redesigned bat suit.

During DC FanDome in September, Leslie toucned on the new features for the character Ryan Wilder, saying that she wanted to celebrate her natural hair and curves.

“Ryan’s journey starts from a place of ‘What can this Batsuit do for me?’ But it’s not long before she realizes the power of its symbol and what it can do for everyone else in Gotham City,” said executive producer Caroline Dries of Batwoman’s new look. “As Ryan embraces everything that makes her special, she adjusts the suit to fit her physically and figuratively. This meant creating a new body design and new cowl that was undeniably a statement that screamed ‘powerful,’” she explaind.

“Maya Mani sent me her drawings and I loved it. The wig was something we never perfected in season one, and Janice Workman crushed it with this new take. Javicia and I saw various prototypes of styles and red ombres, and at one point we were trading our own iPad-doodled versions. Janice translated that into what we are looking at now. When I see it, I smile. It makes me feel inspired.”

Leslie added, “I love the fact that Ryan is becoming her own Batwoman — it’s her style, her swag, and her moment! It was an honor to be able to collaborate with Caroline and Maya. I felt it was important that viewers could tell by the silhouette that Batwoman was a Black girl. With the form-fitting suit and beautiful Afro, we definitely nailed it!”

“I was asked by Caroline Dries to design a Batsuit that was unique to the character of Ryan Wilder; as she is a highly skilled fighter, encapsulating her raw, athletic, and passionate nature was imperative,” said Mani. “As Batwoman, Javicia Leslie not only brings a fresh perspective, but physical strength to the role. It was important for the new suit to define Javicia’s commanding presence while showcasing her athleticism and allowing her the freedom to express the physical nature of Batwoman, all while looking ultra-cool in the process!”

Leslise is picking up where actress Ruby Rose left off when she exited the show after season one.

“When I read the character description, it was definitely me. I love the idea that it’s goofy meets bada** meets a person who doesn’t like to be told what to do. A person who does not like to follow the rules. I loved the fact that Ryan was just who I am, just a hot mess!” Leslie joked during DC FanDome last month.
