Gunman Targeted Victims (sisters) of Texas A&M-Commerce Shooting: ‘This Doesn’t Feel Real’ [VIDEO]

*The mother of the two Texas A&M-Commerce freshman who were killed Monday morning is sharing her heartache over the death of her daughters.

Deja Matts, 19, and her big sister Abbaney, 20, were fatally shot Monday morning at Texas A&M University-Commerce, PEOPLE reports.

“This doesn’t feel real,” Vanessa Matts wrote in a Facebook post dedicated to her daughters Tuesday morning (see the post below).

A deranged gunman shot the sisters Monday morning inside Pride Rock Residence Hall, the college announced on Twitter Tuesday. Abbaney’s 2-year-old son was also shot but survived his injuries. According to the PEOPLE report, the child has since been reunited with his family.

The shooter has been identified as 21-year-old Jacques Dshawn Smith. He’s been arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with the shooting.

Deja was a first year student at A&M-Commerce while Abbaney was not enrolled at the school.

The shooting occurred inside the co-ed residence hall for freshmen.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to the family, friends and students impacted by today’s tragic event. During this difficult time, we encourage our Lion family — students, faculty, staff and friends — to remain supportive of each other,” A&M-Commerce President Mark Rudin said in a statement.

School officials said Tuesday that the “shooting appears to be a targeted, isolated event,” as Smith is believed to be an ex-boyfriend of one of the victims.

The university has canceled classes until Thursday and counselors are available for students, USA Today reports.
