White Students Not Punished for Celebrating Black Panther with Blackface Selfies – WATCH

*We’ve seen Marvel’s billion-dollar all-Black movie being celebrated in several different ways – but apparently, people can get carried away with these celebrations.

Several white students at Colorado State University had been sharing pictures of Blackface selfies to ‘support’ Black Panther. Well, they’ve accepted that their actions were stupid but are sure they didn’t mean to come off as racists.

All we’ve got to say is – stupid is as stupid does.

They All Want to Be Black Until the Po-Po Shows Up

Even though this paraphrased excerpt may have had another context, it fits perfectly here, doesn’t it? The pictures that had been shared on social media had the bare chests or tank tops of students with the ‘Wakanda Forever’ gesture out front and the blackface made on all the students.

We’ve established that the students were as stupid as they come, but we still need to find out whether they got into trouble.

They Got Away… Unfortunately

The North Star Twitter account for the Colorado State University had posted this sad news with their rationale of why the students didn’t get into trouble. Their post read, “Officials stated that because of First Amendment rights, and because the photo was posted on a personal social media account, the students will not be punished for their actions.”

First of all, this statement was a huge let down for the Black wannabes, because it ruined their street cred in Narnia. Secondly, the letter submitted by the President of the University and the Vice President of Student Affairs seemed heartfelt enough to console anyone who was outraged.

The letter read, “We have heard from many of you—and we hear you. Moreover, we respect your voices. We know that images like this one—whether consciously racist or not—can perpetuate deliberate racism and create a climate that feels deeply hostile.”

One of the Students Comes Forward

Leana Kaplan was one of the students in the Blackface selfies, and she accepted that she had no right to do what she did and apologized for her actions. “I am guilty of insensitivity and stupidity, but these do not make me a racist nor even a denier of my racism, as so many are,” read the letter that was dropped in by her father.

We don’t know what to say after all this, but we do know that the university gets an ‘A+’ for their letter writing skills and an ‘F’ for their insensitivity towards culture.
