Uber Driver Who Murdered 6 People Sentenced to Life in Prison

Jason Dalton

*The terroristic white American male who shot and killed six people and wounded two others during a shooting rampage around Kalamazoo was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday.

Former Uber driver Jason Dalton pleaded guilty last month to six counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder and eight counts of felony use of a firearm for the February 2016 murders.

As reported by The AP, he admitted shooting eight people in three locations in between picking up passengers for the ride-sharing service. After his arrest , Dalton allegedly told police that a “devil figure” on Uber’s app was controlling him on the day of his shooting spree.

“You tried to kill us all. You failed. I’m standing right in front of you,” Tiana Carruthers, who was shot four times as she was shielding a group of children at a playground, said through tears, the report states.

Carruthers and 14-year-old Abigail Kopf were the only survivors of the massacre.

“Someday when you die and you face God, he will make the ultimate judgment for what you’ve done,” Laurie Smith, who lost her husband and son in the February 2016 rampage, told Jason Dalton during the sentencing hearing. “All I can say is, I do not want to be you — not now and not then.”

Following the statements, Dalton was given a mandatory sentence of life without parole.

As noted by msn.com, after shooting Carruthers, “Dalton drove to a car dealership and fatally shot Rich Smith, 53, and his 17-year-old son, Tyler. He then gunned down Mary Jo Nye, 60; Mary Lou Nye, 62; Barbara Hawthorne, 68; and Dorothy Brown, 74, in the parking lot of a Cracker Barrel.”

Dalton continued to pick up Uber users in between the deadly shootings.

The father of two worked as an insurance adjuster and had no criminal record before the incident.

“Ten thousand days (in prison) doesn’t come close to what you deserve,” said Prosecutor Jeff Getting. “I wish somehow it could be more. You deserve more.”
