The Real’s Love & Hip Hop: NY Week continues with Cyn Santana, who takes the opportunity to clarify some racial remarks she made on a podcast several years ago.

And co-host Adrienne Houghton issues a warning – don’t sneak up on her! She may watch a few too many procedural crime dramas, but if you come up behind her, she’ll take you down!

Then Pepa and Egypt Criss visit to discuss the season premiere of Growing Up Hip Hop. Egypt admits the first time she knew her mother was a hip-hop icon, and Pepa shares the best career advice she has for her daughter. And then Pepa reveals the “God’s honest truth” behind the lawsuit with Spinderella.

Pepa Reveals The “God’s Honest Truth” Behind Spinderella’s Lawsuit Against Salt-N-Pepa

Loni Love: What happened? I just need to know.

Egypt Criss: Backstory!

Pepa: Well… You wanna know what happened?

Loni: What happened?

Jeannie Mai: Yeah!

Pepa (to herself): Can I say this… well, it’s true! I mean, it was just that, throughout times, Salt-N-Pepa, that is the group, that’s how we started, unfortunately there was another Spinderella… Spin left the group one time, and came back, and Salt left the one – I’m the original member – let me say that – I stayed too, Salt-N-Pepa – I ain’t never left me!

[The Real audience applauds]

Adrienne Houghton: I never left! I never left me!

Egypt: I never left me!

Pepa: But you know, it’s a lot of time they ask for Salt-N-Pepa to talk or be here and they don’t have Spinderella, and it’s out of our hands and she always blames us, you know, I think that’s, you know, to fight. We do fight, but sometimes they – like, no, we just want the Salt-N-Pepa. And it’s hard. And that was a lot of that constantly, constantly and she wants to say, “No, don’t do this,” you know, and I’m like, “I’m doing it. I’m getting over it.”

[The Real audience applauds]

Pepa: Oh I’m gonna be on The Real.

Loni: But she’s suing you for royalties.

Pepa: Oh, well things like that… when, back in the days… when like Hurby brings you in the group…

Loni: Right.

Pepa: Brought her in. We didn’t have nothing to do with it! “That’s second Spinderella. Hurby wants you in.” We – as adults, everyone’s responsible for how – that’s what I said, you gotta be a manager, accountant, you gotta sell your business!

[The Real audience applauds]

Pepa: Your own business, because if you stay on your business, you will see, “Oh my god, I should do this,” or “I should be getting this.” I don’t know – should be all ‘ya.

Loni: So your contract was with you and Salt. Salt-N-Pepa. And Cinderella –

Pepa: Spinderella.

Loni: Spinderella – Cinderella – Spinderella came in separately.

Pepa: Right. Through Hurby.

Loni: Ok, through Hurby.

Adrienne: And her deal was her deal, and didn’t have anything to do with you.

Pepa: No!

Loni: Ok.

Pepa: At all. And what I just want to add, out of Salt-N-Pepa money, $1.6 million – when we got our deal, we did not contractually obligated at all – Salt-N-Pepa took our money and gave her $1.6 million – and didn’t have to.

[The Real audience applauds]

Pepa: And that’s the “God’s honest truth.”

Adrienne: There we go.

Pepa: You know, and that’s the sense like – we didn’t have to do those things and I want that to be known because no one talks about that. They talk about all this stuff but what did we do all this time.

Tamera Mowry-Housley: If you’re gonna talk about the bad, you gotta talk about the good, too.

Pepa: Yeah.

[The Real audience applauds]

Pepa: I fight for mine! I fight for this group, I love the brand!

Adrienne: Thank you for clarifying that and being so open and honest!
