*On Tuesday, Nov. 19, the ladies of The Real welcome guest co-host Tisha Campbell and recap Sunday’s Soul Train Awards, which she co-hosted with Tichina Arnold.
The hosts then discuss the world that black men are growing up in today, and the discussions they hold in their own families. Co-host Loni Love says it’s time for law enforcement to be taught about racial bias in order to treat everyone equally and Tisha talks about how she is working on that with her brothers.
Actors Cheryl Hines and Olivia Holt visit to chat about their Freeform holiday movie, Turkey Drop. Cheryl shares how she’s become friends with a showbiz legend and Olivia is revealed to be a huge Cheetah Girls fan!
And then the ladies play an energizing game of “Fake It Or Take It,” with audience members determining the real product from the knockoff for a chance to win designer pieces.
Police Need To Follow Procedure And Treat Everyone Equally So Black Men Don’t Have To Be Afraid
Loni Love: I feel like as a country, we’re turning into this, “We gotta teach our Black men how to – how to act towards –” Our Black men already knew how to – you know –

Loni: That’s not the issue.
Tisha Campbell: Absolutely!
Loni: I want to keep the issue on law enforcement. And the thing is, I don’t care who you are – what gender, what race you are – there’s a certain procedure that police are supposed to treat everybody equally and we have to remain on that.

Loni: Because even if you do do, Rest In Peace Philando Castile, he did everything and he still got shot.
Tisha: He was supposed to do, yeah.
Loni: That was a part of police procedure racial bias and we need to focus on that and not make it like “the Black men are the cause of this,” no.

Loni: It’s police.
Tisha: That’s very true, and you know what? What most people don’t know is that they have only a couple week of diversity training. And my whole family are police officers, so they don’t get the right and enough training in diversity, they don’t get enough training in –
Loni: Racial bias…
Tisha: All of that! And even in their – what do you call it? defense, self-defense, they don’t get like, enough of that, so most of the time, you don’t really have to worry about the person who’s the real racist, you have to worry about the person who like this [SHOWS HAND SHAKING].
Loni: That’s kinda scared.
Tisha: That’s scared!
Loni: Yeah. And trigger happy.
Tisha: And trigger happy!

Tamera Mowry-Housley: I was having this conversation with my brother Tavior last night. And to hear him say, he’s like, “Tamera, when I see a cop car or a cop, I get – I legitimately get scared. And I actually want to go the other way around.” And I was like, “Tavior, what do you think is going to cause some change?” And literally, he said, “True change is going to happen when people who misuse their authority in these type of situations are held accountable for it, and they change.” But thing is, we do need allies, he said, we do need allies; they’re going to play an important role in that, so I gotta give Kim Kardashian props for using her 152 million followers on Instagram – I mean she has a huge platform – thank you for speaking up about this.
