*Before she became a famous comedienne, Leslie Jones worked as a telemarketer for Scientology. Appearing on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” Wednesday, Jones and her “Ghostbusters” co-stars Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy and Kate McKinnon, all talk about their pre-Hollywood work.
“Yeah, they kinda still don’t know I’m not a Scientologist,” Jones said when Ellen DeGeneres asked her about her previous job. “Thanks for blowing my cover, Ellen!”
Jones gives an explanation for holding the job, saying: “I lived in Glendale. I needed to pay the rent and it was a very easy interview. I just acted crazy,” she joked. “Oh, my God, I’m sorry, Scientologists, for revealing things,” she said, staring at the camera with a blank face.
“Now you’re in trouble,” Ellen jokes.
Wiig’s (completely made-up) career history was the best of them all. “I was an umpire for a Scientology baseball team,” she said with a laugh. “Every time I was like, ‘It’s safe. It’s fine.’ No, I sold peaches at the farmers’ market.”

Leslie was hired on as an SNL writer in December 2013, and she appeared during the Weekend Update segment the following year where her jokes about her dating problems and self-described “breeding slave” appeal were met with controversy.
On October 20, 2014, Jones was promoted to the cast as a featured player. She became, at the age of 47, the oldest person to join SNL as a cast member. Her addition also marks the first time in SNL history that the show’s cast has included more than one African-American female.
Jones has been a featured performer at the Just For Laughs festival in Montreal and the Aspen Comedy Festival.
“Ghostbusters” hits theaters on July 15.
