Just Met Your First Black Girlfriend? – Here’s What NOT to Say or Do to Her (VIDEO)

*So, now that you’ve won over a black girl to be your girlfriend, remember that there are some lines you shouldn’t be crossing with her.

Interracial marriages may be on the rise, but they are far from being the norm, and you will be killing your chances of one if you’re doing or saying some of the following things to your black girlfriend.

Here’s what you need to remember:

Stop with the Futile Attempts at Cultural Appropriation

If you’re trying to sound or act like a hip hop artist to them or trying to mimic an accent in your attempts at cultural appropriation on the first few dates, chances are that you’ll get dumped in no time. Do not even be asking her if she’s into JAY Z or Nicky Minaj. She may very well be listening to “Cigarettes after Sex” on repeat—just like yourself.

Do Not Tell Her She Looks like Some Famous Black Artist

Just stop it. This old trick went out with the floppy disks. It was never effective anyway. So, next time you feel the urge to compare her to a black artist who is a hit in pop culture, just stop right there and honestly ask yourself if that really is the case or if you should just talk about something else altogether. More often than not, the latter would be the answer.

You’re Not like the “Others”

This is a degradation of your Black girlfriend’s roots and culture at best— and extremely offensive at it. So, don’t ever say anything along these lines. There can be various versions of this statement so it’s important to make sure that you do not end up sounding ignorant or racist in your well-meaning attempt to compliment her. This statement basically conveys that you have a low opinion of someone’s race, culture, and traditions, and a Black girl will not take it lightly. Nobody would!
