JD Lawrence Plays 72 Characters in One-Man Show ‘Skitzophrenia’ Surpassing Guinness Book of World Records

JD Lawrence's Skitzophrenia

*JD Lawrence, the creator and star of the Bravo television series “Your Husband Is Cheating On Us” and BET’s “The Clean Up Woman,” set a new world record June 29th at the Klein Memorial Auditorium in Bridgeport, Connecticut for the Most Characters Played by One Actor in a Single Theatre Production.

Lawrence played an eye-popping 72 Characters in 90 minutes in his one-man show I’ll Always Love My Momma now entitled Skitzophrenia surpassing the Guinness Book of World Records.

Even more impressive, Lawrence who has a profound stutter was able get through all 72 characters effortlessly.

Inspired by actual events; Lawrence calls the show a “Therapeutic Dramedy Memoir.” The show takes place in Amityville, New York. (Yes, that “Amityville” and minutes from the infamous house in the movie.) The show is centered around Lawrence after the loss of his mother.

In order to help get through his depression, his therapist recommends he let go of the family home where he grew up. However, it’s easier said than done. As he begins to pack, he comes across memorabilia that now triggers his schizophrenia as the inquisitive and rambunctious seven-year-old nicknamed Ace and his clingy best friend who just happens to be his shadow.

The NAACP Award Winner’s performance is a moving and humorous examination of family, forgiveness, love, life and loss. The show deftly tackles important mental health topics including schizophrenia, depression, PTSD, domestic violence, trauma, drugs & alcohol and adverse childhood experiences.

The Two-Time Telly Award Winner’s performance masterfully elucidates and educates, giving the audience a backstage pass inside of the internal lives of these characters. SKITZophrenia, through storytelling, humor, dance and catchy original uplifting tunes (written and performed by Lawrence) like Broken, I’m A Fighter, Casualty of War and Bring Me to Life, touches the audience in a way that other genres cannot, making it fertile ground for exploring these issues related to mental health.

Lawrence’s performance is an absolute must-see for the entire family. SKITZophrenia the musical, no the comedy, it’s a drama… it’s healing. JD Lawrence’s SKITZophrenia is touring this fall, making stops in Miami, Orlando, Jacksonville, Tampa, Atlanta, New York, Dallas and Charlotte to name a few.
