EUR Exclusive: Black Excellence Brunch Celebrates Season 2 Of TBS’ ‘The Last OG’ – VIDEO

*TBS’ hit show “The Last OG” starring Tracy Morgan and Tiffany Haddish begins its second season on April 2. To celebrate the new season, “The Black Excellence Brunch” honored cast, writers and directors from the show. It was held at the WACO Theatre – which is owned by actor Richard Lawson and his wife Tina Knowles-Lawson.. yes, Beyonce’s mama.

Those in attendance included actress Bresha Webb (Marlon), actress Taylor Mosby who portrays Amina on “The Last OG,” Beyonce’s lead dancer, Ashley Everett, model Jasmine Sanders, “Giants” creator JR Bland,  Writer/actress Diarra Kilpatrick (The Twilight Zone) director Mathew Cherry (The Last OG), plus several writers from the show and industry movers and shakers.

Guests were treated to special “Last OG” mimosas with pineapple, grapefruit and mango combinations. Brunch included shrimp and grits, lavender turkey sausage, peach cobbler waffles and truffle eggs while violinist Alan Price serenaded the room. Each guest was gifted with a black excellence pin.

“The Last OG” follows Tray  (Morgan) an ex-con who is released from prison for good behavior after a 15-year stint who is adjusting to a newly gentrified Brooklyn. As he finds his way and learns new life skills to transition back into life on the outside, he discovers his ex-girlfriend Shay (Haddish), is now married to a successful white man (Ryan Gaul) who is helping to raise the twins (Taylor Mosby and Dante Hoagland) Tray never knew existed.

EURweb’s Jill Munroe was in attendance and spoke with the creator of the “Black Excellence Brunch” Trell Thomas about what inspired him to launch the series.

“Black Excellence Brunch is not just an event, it’s a movement rooted in love, positivity and the appreciation of Black people. When I started Black Excellence Brunch, I was trying to find a way to  make us feel more worthy, more whole and create a safe space where we could celebrate each other and build with one another.”
