*Beyoncé and Jay-Z were not present to accept the 2019 Brit Award for Best International Group on Wednesday. So the Carters recorded an acceptance speech in a video that paid tribute to Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle.
“Thank you so much to the BRIT Awards for this incredible honor. You guys have always been so supportive. Everything is love,” Beyoncé said while holding the trophy for the couple’s collaborative album.
An elegant portrait of the former actress turned royal is prominently displayed on the wall behind them. After delivering their speech, the Carters turn to face the artwork, mirroring their pose by the Mona Lisa at the Louvre in Paris, France, in their “Apeshit” video.
“In honor of Black History Month, we bow down to one of our Melanated Monas,” Beyoncé wrote on Instagram in her homage to Markle. “Congrats on your pregnancy! We wish you so much joy.”
Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry are expecting their first child together in April.

On Instagram, Beyonce shared the following message about the BRIT win: “Thank you to the Brits for the award for Best International Group. I won this award back in 2002 with my besties, Kelly and Michelle. How lucky am I to have been in a group with my other best friend, the GOAT Hova. ?? In honor of Black History Month, we bow down to one of our Melanated Monas. Congrats on your pregnancy! We wish you so much joy.”
Meanwhile, TMZ reports that the artist behind the Markle painting says Bey and Jay never got his permission to use his work, nor did they pay him a cent — but he’s letting it slide.
