Queensfest 2019 starts today at CAAM.

The LA based creative collective, Queens of the New Age partnered with the California African American Museum and Tina Farris Tours, for a two-day educational music arts festival and songwriting camp celebrating creative women of color.

Sponsored by Spotify and program partner, Will & Jada Smith Family Foundation, Queensfest 2019 features live music, DJ sets, producer salons, art exhibits, expression workshops, POC vendors, food trucks and more.

“Providing hands-on experience, access to established networks and mentorship is critical to the success of more women of color, and we’re proud to be part of Queensfest for the first time this year,” shared Kerry Steib, Director of Social Impact, Spotify.

The fest is free and open to all ages. For tickets, volunteering, or students interested in attending visit queens.la.

This year, Queensfest introduced a second day of focused educational programming with Queenscamp, a full day of songwriting and music production for girls ages 12-17 at a world class boutique recording studio in Hollywood. Presented in partnership with Spotify’s EQL Studio Residency and The 7%, Queenscamp will host 24 girls from Vox Collegiate preparatory school to gain hands-on in-studio experience from music industry professionals. Students will have the chance to contribute their ideas and participate in the song writing, production and engineering of a musical composition from concept to completion.

“We know the only way to truly drive industry-wide change and establish a more inclusive environment is to create programs like our EQL Residency and partner with companies and organizations like Queens of The New Age to champion and celebrate creative women of color,” explained Steib.

Highlighted participants include: Aluna George, Madame Gandhi, Tiffany Gouché, DJ Rashida, TRAKGIRL, NOVA Wav, Asmara, and Liv.E.
