*Authorities in Atlanta are asking people who collected the cash that fell out of an armored truck on I-285 in Dunwoody, Georgia to return the money or face criminal charges.
Dozens of drivers pulled over on the shoulder and jumped out of their vehicles after the side door of the armored truck opened and money came flying across the highway. Authorities say about $175,000 fell out of the truck, but by the time police arrived on the scene the drivers were long gone and so was most of the cash. They were only able to recover about $200.

The incident occurred Tuesday evening on I-285 near Ashford Dunwoody Road in Atlanta. A passing motorist recorded the scene as folks pulled over to grab up the cash littered on the road.
“I saw a bunch of paper floating around in the road and everybody pulling over on the shoulder, and as I got closer I noticed it was all just cash,” the driver told WSB Radio.
Sgt. Robert Parsons said his department took note of the license plate numbers on the vehicles seen in the video. The drivers will be hit with theft charges if they don’t return the cash.
“When you come into control of property that you know is lost or mislaid and you appropriate that to your own use, without returning it to the owner, certainly it is a crime,” he said.
According to V103, only two people have turned in money so far. One person handed over $2,000, while another returned over $600.
“That leaves a lot left out there,” Parsons said. “We understand anyone in that position would be tempted, but we want people to do the right thing and bring the money back, so they don’t have to worry about police knocking on their door.”
