Watch Tamar Tunie Featured in “Dietland” Trailer/Promo:

*Los Angeles – These days, you can’t turn on your television or scroll through social media without seeing some form of body praising or conversely, body shaming.  Well now you have shows such as AMC’s “Dietland,” that are widening the conversation about beauty standards.

Dietland” is based on the best-selling novel of the same name, written by Sarai Walker. The series explores a multitude of issues that women face including rape culture and misogyny.

We sat down with Tamara Tunie, who stars opposite Joy Nash and Julianna Margulies in the hit show.

“The show is really what I call a coming of age, revenge, fantasy, darkly comic, thriller,” says Tunie who’s role as Julia is the keeper of the magazine’s beauty closet that she works for.  Julia also recruits the shows main character, Plum, for a resistance movement against the fashion industry, media and general misogyny.

Tamara says that she was excited about the possibilities of this character because it’s unlike the role that most people associate her with. She admits:

“People, when they think of me as the medical examiner, Dr. Warner on Law & Order: SVU, first comes to mind and this is so not Dr. Warner.”

Dietland” is set to make some twists and turns this season as its being described as part beauty-industry satire, part vigilante-justice thriller, part murder mystery, and part body-positive manifesto.
