Stars Celebrate Music Icon Janet Jackson at BMI R&B Hip Hop Awards

*The BMI R&B Hip Hop Awards took place in Atlanta recently, as celebrities from all over convened at the Woodruff Arts Center’s Symphony Hall to celebrate the “Queen of Pop,” Janet Jackson. Miss Jackson received the ‘Icon Award’ for her extraordinary contributions to the music world over a career that has spanned four decades.

EUR’s ATL based associate Ivan Thomas was there on the red carpet to speak with celebs about their thoughts on the music legend.  Those in attendance included Teyana Taylor, Missy Elliott, Jussie Smollet (“Empire”) , Keri Hilson, David and Tamela Mann, Keisha Knight Pulliam, Cree Davis (“The Bobby Brown Story”), BeBe Winans, Nene Leaks (“Real Housewives of Atlanta”), Lloyd, Evander Holyfield and many more.

It was a spectacular night that saw special tributes from Ciara, who gave a high intensity dance routine choreographed by Sean Bankhead, which featured 50 young dancers. H.E.R., Normani, Jussie Smollett, Justine Skye and Teyana Taylor also performed classic hits from Jackson. Missy Elliott gave a passionate speech and shared some of her fondest memories before the star of the night came to the stage.

Jackson graciously accepted her award, joining other music trailblazers including Patti LaBelle, James Brown, Snoop Dogg and Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds to name a few.

Although it was undeniably Jackson’s night, several others took home honors, including producer Metro Boomin, who won the award for Producer of the Year for the third straight time, as well as Songwriter of the Year for having eight of the most performed songs – “Bad & Boujee” and “Mask Off” among them.
