*Janelle Monae left some fans of “The Voice” upset and taking to Twitter with complaints that her performance on Monday’s show was too raunchy for the 8 o’clock hour.
Monae performed her latest single “Make Me Feel,” a sexual song that has been dubbed an anthem for the LGBTQ community. The choreography involved a lot of pelvic thrusting and sliding around the stage.
“You got me right here in your jean pocket/ Laying your body on a shag carpet,” Monae sang while gliding on her hands and knees.
Twitter quickly filled with complaints form viewers, with many asking how NBC let it slide, especially since the show had an 8 p.m. time slot, (traditionally a safe space for family viewings). Others had a problem with her back-ups dancers being scantily clad.
Watch the performance below, followed by reaction on Twitter:
@NBCTheVoice Isn’t this supposed to be a family show? That performance by Janelle Monae was anything but. Can’t we have a performance without thrusting sex in our faces. Can’t we at least try? Younger kids watch this show for goodness sakes. Disappointing for sure. Do better!

How is that appropriate in an 8pm time slot? Kids love this show. Come on! Not cool @NBCTheVoice

The dancers outfits are not appropriate for this viewing time.

The dancers with bare rears were doing a routine you’d see in a strip bar. I wish they’d stay a bit more family friendly.
