*Newsweek is catching heat for publishing a photo of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in his casket, and it accompanied an article titled “Has Anyone Seen My Old Friend Martin?”
The article was a repost of a story that first appeared on the Council on Foreign Affairs site, which listed historical anniversaries for 2018. April 4th will mark the fiftieth anniversary of King’s assassination.
Instead of tweeting a photo of Dr. King when he was alive, a photo of him in his casket was used and MLK’s daughter, Bernice King, couldn’t believe it: “Why, @Newsweek? Wow,” she tweeted.
And of course, the rest of social media was also livid.
“This is incredibly offensive and is, in fact, journalistic malpractice,” one Twitter user noted.

Newsweek initially deleted the tweet without so much as an explanation. But late Monday, the publication issued an apology to Bernice King for tweeting the insensitive photo.
“Earlier this afternoon we published an opinion piece with an insensitive image of Martin Luther King Jr. We sincerely apologize to the King family for this egregious error.”

In related news, King’s brother-in-law, and a founding member of The Martin Luther King Center for Nonviolent Social Change has died.
Isaac Newton Farris Sr., who suffered from prostate cancer and Parkinson’s disease, died at his Atlanta home on Saturday morning, NY Post reports. He was 83.
Farris was a successful entrepreneur and founder of Farris Color Visions. He also served as project manager for the construction of The King Center.
“Through all the tragedies and victories he helped build the King Center,” his daughter Angela Farris-Watkins told The Associated Press.
Farris was a deacon and trustee at the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church where he was a member for over 60 years.
He married Christine King in a ceremony performed by Martin Luther King Jr. and their brother A.D. King on Aug. 19, 1960.
