Trump Supporter Insists Slavery is ‘Good History, Considering Where We Are Today’ (Watch)

*Fox News pundit and Donald Trump supporter Katrina Pierson tried to argue that slavery is part of America’s “good history,” because, according to her logic, all “bad history” is good history for the country because it shows how far America has come.

On Monday, talk turned toward the current movement to remove Confederate monuments. Pierson was brought on to debate social justice expert Wendy Osefo, a professor at Johns Hopkins University.

Comparing people who want to take down the statues to ISIS, Pierson said that “Americans actually love their history, their culture, good and bad, because it helps them learn and it helps keep people educated about why America is so great to begin with.”

Osefo argued: “Confederate monuments came after the South lost the war. Six hundred and fifty thousand people died and the southerners were considered treasonous. On top of that, this sprung up after December 1865 when the Ku Klux Klan actually was trying to revolt against black local power that came about during the Reconstruction era. So this is not a symbol of patriotism. This is a symbol of hatred and division. And while it is a piece of American history, it’s not necessarily the good part of American history. It’s actually nefarious. So it doesn’t deserve a place on state grounds. It deserves a place in museums. And that’s where they need to be.”

Unswayed, Pierson continued to reduce 245 years of slavery into nothing more than a measuring stick for America’s growth toward “greatness.”

“It absolutely deserves a place, because bad history is still good history for this country –” Pierson said, before Osefo interrupted.

“Slavery is good history?” Osefo asked.

“Considering where we are today, where we are today, Absolutely,” Pierson answered. ” During those times, during those times — think about this for a second. Where would we be today if not for that Civil War? How would our children even know –“

“Where would we be without slavery? Are you serious?” Osefo said. “Do you hear what you’re saying?”

“How would our children even know how special and how wonderful this country is that we can even be having this discussion today?” Pierson responded.

“How special slavery is?” Osefo replied, genuinely baffled. “You know how many people died?”

Fox host Ainsley Earhardt tried to jump in, but Pierson was on a roll.

“This country was founded on slave owners who actually put in a place to change the laws,” Pierson continued.
