Donald Trump’s most prominent African-American defender, Omarosa Manigault Newman, plans to leave the administration next month, effective Jan. 20, according to a statement released Wednesday morning (Dec. 13) from White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

“Omarosa Manigault Newman resigned yesterday to pursue other opportunities.  Her departure will not be effective until January 20, 2018. We wish her the best in her future endeavors and are grateful for her service.

The former contestant on Trump’s reality show “The Apprentice” joined the administration as director of communications for the White House Office of Public Liaison, working on outreach to various constituency groups, including African Americans.

She was last seen with the president in Mississippi over the weekend for the opening of the Civil Rights Museum.

Her exit date falls on the one year anniversary of Trump’s inauguration.
