*Before Ja Rule was the family man depicted in the MTV reality series “Follow the Rules,” the artist was rap-singing his way through platinum selling hits in the early 2000s like “Put it On Me,” “Always on Time” and “Between Me and You.”
Asked about the origin of his sing-songy style at an August TCA panel for his TV show, Ja said it comes from his unique perspective on music.
“I looked at music through a different eye, obviously. I see music as instruments, and my voice is just another instrument,” he said. “So sometimes when I am making records and it calls for maybe a line to be dragged out or maybe have a little melodic flow to it, it kind of just happened because that’s what the music and the track called for.”
Below, Ja Rule says the style just happened organically when he rapped.
