*Does this woman look familiar? She should. If you’ve been keeping up with the promising new shows this season, you may recognize “Nakeisha,” the outspoken, no-nonsense character from summer’s favorite new comedy, “The Carmichael Show.”

The show was just picked up for a second season.

Tiffany Haddish appears on the hit show headed by comedian and show co-creator, Jerrod Carmichael, along with the hilarious Loretta Divine and David Alan Grier, Amber Stevens West and Milton ‘Lil Rel’ Howery. Haddish plays an aspiring therapist who, along with her ex-husband (played by Howery,) attempted to keep their divorce a secret from the super-religious heads of the family (played by Grier and Divine) until it was blurted out in a thrown-under-the-bus moment by Carmichael’s character; which brought about the hilarious response “In this family we don’t divorced. We just suffer through it!” by Grier’s character.

The show that has been called the most-watched summer comedy on the Big 4 networks over the past eight years, and it has captured 4.7 million viewers.

Haddish’s comedic and acting talents have landed her in starring roles on shows such as “Chelsey Lately,” “That’s So Raven,” “My Name is Earl,” and “New Girl.”

She is also doing double-duty, with a recurring role on the Tyler Perry soap opera, “If Loving You Is Wrong.”

In speaking with EURweb, Haddish says she is both surprised, yet not, by the success of ‘The Carmichael Show.’

“I knew it would be a good show because Loretta [Divine] and David [Alan Grier] are superstars,” she says. “But I had no idea that it would be this big!”

“We are extremely proud of ‘The Carmichael Show,’” Jennifer Salke, NBC Entertainment President, says in a press statement. “This show made a big impact with viewers and critics because it’s funny and relatable. But also because it’s fearless about discussing issues that are significant in the world today.”

Haddish, 35, and the eldest of five, has had her share of challenges. After her mother suffered serious injuries from a car accident she was left to care her younger siblings, who was later placed in foster care. Haddish was given two choices by a social worker, go to psycho-therapy or enroll in the Laugh Factory Comedy Camp. She chose option number two. This is where she realized her dreams of acting and making people laugh.

When asked to describe her character Haddish says:

“Nekeisha is a woman who knows what she wants out of life and is not afraid to say what needs to be said. And sometimes, what doesn’t. I hope audiences will recognize her realness and that she really wants to be loved.”

Haddish also hopes people will appreciate Nakeisha’s sense of fashion.

The entertainment business is not an easy one. It can either be a feast or famine type of existence. And while some actors are extremely fortunate to land even one recurring or series regular role during their entire career, Haddish has managed to land two. When asked how she handles being on both The Carmichael Show and the OWN Network soap, If Loving You Is Wrong, she admits.

“My schedule is crazy and the way I deal with it all… I just take it one day at time. And I have to take “Me” time once a week. I Love  it!”

And Haddish says her real=life past has definitely given her material she can use for “Nakeisha.”

“Oh YES! …My past needs of wanting a man that could take care of me without spending all of my money. And I based Nekeisha’s attitude on the way my cousins and I used  to talk….Well, we might still talk like that!”

Haddish says she also worked closely with wardrobe on her character’s style of dress.

And her feelings about working with established talent like Loretta Divine and David Alan Grier?

“IT’S A DREAM COME TRUE!” she states. “I remember being a kid watching David on TV saying, ‘I will work with him one day.’  And I always wanted Loretta to be my mom. And now she is! And she is a great teacher.”

Watch Tiffany Haddish on ‘The Carmichael Show’ Wednesdays 9:30/8:30c on NBC.
