*Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson informed folks via Twitter that he caught an early screening of the risqué “50 Shades of Grey,” and all hell broke loose among his Christian followers.
The 26-year-old, who has been vocal about the importance of his religious beliefs, even called the sex-heavy movie “a great film.”
Thanks for the early showing of #50ShadesOfGrey late last night.. #EmeraldCity Great movie.

His Christian fans immediately went in, expressing shock that a self-professed Christian would entertain a film like this:
@DangeRussWilson man why support that garbage?
— Nathan Hodges (@hodgesperio) February 13, 2015
@DangeRussWilson COME ON MAN!!! THAT MOVIE IS MORAL FILTH!!!
— PastorMatt Krachunis (@krachunis) February 13, 2015
@DangeRussWilson why are you promoting #50shadesoftrash ? I’m surprised.
— Jim Jacobson (@JimJacobson) February 13, 2015
.@DangeRussWilson I’m more than a little confused, Russell. I thought you professed to be a Christian. And yes, I’m judgmental (John 7:24).
— Tony Miano (@TonyMiano) February 13, 2015
.@DangeRussWilson Don’t say you represent Christ, and the publicly endorse a moved filled with immorality and sexual violence.

After enough of these, Wilson responded:
Saw a movie filmed in the town I call home. Provocative/disturbing no doubt but that does not make me less Faithful. Have a blessed day!

His teammate Jon Ryan eventually chimed in to put this all in perspective:
People upset w/our QB for going to 50 Shades of Grey: your head would explode if u saw the rest of the team’s Internet browser histories

So-called christians are the worst of the lot.
Bible thumpers. Gotta love em’.
These folks need to relax. How do they know how “filthy” the film is unless they’ve seen it? WTF?
If they don’t want to watch the film, cool. But please leave everyone else alone who does. Mind your own effing business people.
Crazy extremists…
not every Christian is a bible thumper … or extremist … and none of us is perfect – he had his own reason to watch it and comment about it; his twitter followers didn’t like that, and so what – I have no interest in a movie such as that one and couldn’t care less who does …
I realize every Christian is not a Bible thumper, or an extremist. I’m a Christian, and I don’t claim to be perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but this B.S. right here is a bit ridiculous.
These people are going way overboard for criticizing Russell Wilson. He’s a grown man who does NOT need these freaks’ permission to watch or do anything. Who put them in charge of his life?
The fans don’t own this man, neither do other believers. Condemning him for seeing this film is a bit extreme as far as I’m concerned.
Hopefully, Russell learned NOT to post all of his business on SM. It’s kind of like learning to tell the coach to take a hike when he calls the wrong play on first and goal, and just doing you. Sometimes you just gotta do you without broadcasting anything…
