*The family of late “Good Times” actor John Amos is embroiled in a heated legal dispute, as daughter Shannon Amos has filed a lawsuit against her brother Kelly Christopher “K.C.” Amos, alleging elder abuse, fraud, and wrongful death.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the suit also names John’s former caretaker, Belinda Foster, associate Eugene Brummett, and his production company, Step and One Half Productions, as defendants. Shannon alleges that K.C. manipulated their father into signing legal documents that gave him control of John’s estate, neglecting his deteriorating health in the process.
“This calculated and cruel isolation was explicitly designed to render John Amos entirely dependent on K.C. Amos for all of his personal, financial, and critical medical decisions,” the filing states.
She alleges K.C. began isolating John from family and friends in 2019, even impersonating him in texts and emails, with Brummett and Foster enabling the alleged misconduct.
“What K.C. Amos, Belinda Foster, and Eugene Brummett did in the last years of my father’s life is unfathomable, cruel, and beyond my comprehension,” Shannon told The Hollywood Reporter.

John Amos passed away on August 21, 2024, at age 84 from congestive heart failure, but the announcement wasn’t made until October. Shannon learned of her father’s death via social media 45 days later, leading her to question the circumstances. Foster claimed the delay was at John’s request, stating, “At the time of his death, John was concerned that Shannon might turn his death and interment into a circus as she had done with other aspects of his life… It was John who requested the delay in announcing his death to Shannon and the rest of the world.”
Shannon has not ruled out foul play, though no autopsy was conducted after John’s cremation. Her concerns date back to June 2023, when she publicly accused K.C. of elder abuse and financial exploitation, claims John reportedly denied at the time. In July 2023, K.C. was arrested for allegedly sending Shannon threatening messages, including images of firearms and references to gang ties.
K.C.’s defense investigator, Kevin Faler, told PEOPLE a two-year investigation by Homeland Security Services, Inc., Adult Protective Services, and other agencies found no evidence of wrongdoing, concluding John died of natural causes.
“There has been no physical, financial, emotional, psychological elder abuse or neglect committed against my father by me, Gene Brummett or Belinda Foster (who was John’s assistant for more than 30 years),” K.C. said in a statement to PEOPLE,
Shannon’s legal efforts continue, with her attorney, James H. Davis III, stating, “The family deserves to know the full circumstances surrounding Mr. Amos’ care and the events that led to his passing. We are committed to pursuing all available avenues to ensure that these questions are answered.”
