*In 1999, the classic film “The Best Man” was released, changing the culture forever.
Following the success of the film, 14 years later, in 2013, the cast reunited for “The Best Man: Holiday” which became a huge success. Now, 9 years later, the cast that audiences have grown to love has reunited once more, to close out the story, with “The Best Man: Final Chapters.” What makes this selection in the franchise unique is the fact that instead of a film, it’s an 8-part series now streaming on Peacock.
Created, written & directed by Malcolm D. Lee, the cast includes some of Hollywood’s biggest names including Morris Chestnut, Regina Hall, Terrence Howard, Sanaa Lathan, Nia Long, Taye Diggs, Harold Perrineau, Melissa De Sousa and Monica Calhoun (who’s character Mia, passes away from cancer in “The Best Man: Holiday”).
We caught up with Chestnut and Hall to dish about the series and they revealed which character aside from their own would they love to play in the franchise.
“Well sh*t, Lance [Chestnut] here is having all the fun,” Hall said. “I mean he went through it in number 2, “The Best Man: Holiday,” but looks like he’s coming out with a different sense of self and purpose.”
Interestingly enough, Chestnut also chose Hall and her spouse in the film Murch’s [Perrineau] characters.
“I think when just watching, I think that the two funnest characters are Candace [Hall] and Murch [Perrineau],” Chestnut said. “I just really enjoy watching them and the chemistry and everything that they’re going through. It would just be one of those characters because they have a- they’re actually pretty complete characters in terms of how layered they are and what they have to deal with.”
“They have a full relationship,” Hall chimed in.
Elsewhere, Chestnut and Hall also discuss if they’re satisfied with how their characters’ stories end in the series.
“You know what, at this point in life, it feels good,” Hall said.

“The one thing about the entire franchise, it’s not even really about just an individual character,” Chestnut said. “It’s us collectively, as a whole entire group. You know, following all the journeys. I think where we are, we’re all pretty comfortable with it.”
Adding on to that statement, Hall said, “it’s how they end up and they end up- everybody’s solid. I think that’s what’s great. I think it has to be that.”
Both cast members also expressed their love for Malcolm D. Lee for creating this franchise 25 years ago.
“Thank you for giving us some characters to have fun with and to be able to revisit throughout the years,” Chestnut said.
Hall adding on says, “thank you for 25 years.”
“I think the best part is just getting back together with the family again,” Chestnut said. “Everyone being at the same place, same time, having fun, acting up on set. That’s the most fun about it.”
