*Michelle Obama is preparing to turn her lifelong love of style into a fashion empire, insiders tell OK!.
The former First Lady reportedly treated the release of her new book, “The Look,” as a preview for her high-end clothing label dubbed “Obamawear.” Per Barnes & Noble: “Beautifully illustrated with more than 200 photographs, including never-before-seen images, The Look is a stunning journey through Michelle Obama’s style evolution, in her own words for the first time.”
Sources say the 61-year-old sees untapped profit in bringing back the dramatic silhouettes that defined ambitious female characters on screen decades ago. At the heart of the “Obamawear” collection are the sharply tailored suits similar to those Melanie Griffith and Sigourney Weaver wore in the 1988 film “Working Girl,” along with the sleek executive looks Robin Givens rocked in the 1992 film “Boomerang.” Design details include exaggerated shoulder pads, wide lapels, structured lines, roomy trousers, and boardroom-ready dresses.
“Michelle thinks the world is ready for a revival of female power-dressing,” said one insider. The source added that Obama wants every piece to give women “the confidence to walk into any room and own it.”
Another source familiar with the project noted that Obama believes the blend of comfort and authority could generate millions in sales. “She sees this as more than nostalgia; it’s about empowering women to feel both comfortable and commanding at work. She really believes the line could make millions.”
The forthcoming range will mirror Obama’s style during her White House years. “What I wore was important… people looked forward to the outfits, and once I got their attention, they listened to what I had to say,” she writes in “The Look.”
