In true EURweb fashion, we sent our own Kenny Pettis Jr. to sit down with the multifaceted artist. They delved into the making of the Tubi docuseries, her evolution from poet to rapper, and the personal background that has shaped the formidable woman and artist she is today.

Capturing the Creative Chaos: The Most “Shameful” Moments Stand Out
The docuseries pulls back the curtain on the often-glamorized process of album creation, revealing the vulnerability and tension that comes with high-stakes artistry. When asked what moment from the documented process stands out the most, Lady London’s answer was surprisingly candid.
“Well, outside of the very, uh, shameful moments of KJ and I’s interactions through the studio… Yeah. I think those are the moments that stand out the most,” she confessed with a laugh. “‘Cause it’s like the ones that kind of make me like, cover my face, you know… those are the moments that I was, I guess, most vulnerable or transparent in my process. So I would say those moments for sure.”
This honesty sets the tone for the entire series. It’s not a polished highlight reel but a genuine portrayal of an artist grappling with doubt, pressure, and the sometimes-fraught collaborations that lead to great art.
From Poet to Powerhouse: Embracing an Evolved Artistic Self
Long before she was commanding attention with her rap flow, Lady London (real name: Zaire Miylaun Stewart) was honing her craft as a poet. This foundation is evident in her sophisticated lyricism and what Pettis rightly calls her “phenomenal pen game.” However, for inspiration, she prefers to look forward rather than backward.
“I definitely prefer to create now,” she stated. “I try not to dwell too much in any of my old writing ‘cause I think that is reflective of who I was then… I try to stay steadfast and be where my feet are in my newest way of operating in my artistry. So I definitely prefer my more evolved pieces of work.”
This forward momentum is a core part of her identity, constantly pushing her artistry to new heights without being anchored to past iterations of herself.

The Unseen Support: How Family Grounded the Journey
A major theme running through ALWAYS, LADY LONDON is the role of family. While they appeared supportive throughout filming, Lady London revealed that the most grounding moment involving her family actually came during the recap, after everything was shot.
“I think it wasn’t until the recap, honestly,” she shared. “I didn’t see any of the confessional moments until they had already put ‘em together… So seeing kind of like my mom and sister speak about me after the fact was pretty cool ‘cause I didn’t watch them film it.”
She highlighted a particularly powerful moment: “My mom’s not emotional at all, so watching my mom kind of cry was very interesting for me to see. Yeah. I think that was like one of the pivotal moments for me, for sure.” This unseen emotional support system provides a crucial emotional backbone to the narrative of the ambitious artist.
A Message of Resilience for Dream Chasers Everywhere
The docuseries doesn’t shy away from heavy topics, including Lady London’s journey through grief and the immense pressure to deliver on her potential. When asked what she hopes her resilience communicates to others chasing their dreams, her answer was both empowering and compassionate.
“I hope that it inspires them to invoke resilience of their own,” she said. “I think, naturally, my nature has always just been very tenacious, very resilient… So I would just encourage anyone along that journey… to kind of exhibit that same amount of strength while also giving themselves a little bit of padding as well.”
She added a crucial nuance that many need to hear: “I don’t think anyone should be commended for how well they’re able to take a hit. But I do think that their strength can carry them to the next chapter of their life as long as they can balance it properly.” It’s a message of enduring strength that also advocates for self-care.

From Page to Screen: Which Poem Would She Adapt?
Given her poetic background and cinematic storytelling in her music, Pettis posed a fascinating final question: If she could adapt one of her poems into a full-length film, which would it be and who would star?
After a moment of thought, Lady London pointed to the depth of her work. “I have several poems that surround relationship dynamics. And I also have poems that speak on systemic racism or the Black People’s Experience in America.”
She landed on a specific piece: “I’d probably do, maybe like ‘The Black The Beautiful’ is a poem that I did years ago, maybe 2017-ish.” For the lead, she named two powerhouse actors: “I probably cast Trevante Rhodes, maybe Kofi Siriboe, to play the main character.” This insight offers a glimpse into the profound and socially conscious themes that continue to influence her art.
