*Nearly 40 years after its release, Jay-Z‘s debut album “Reasonable Doubt” still strikes a nerve, as it will be inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
The honor will take place May 16, 2025 at the Recording Academy’s Grammy Hall Of Fame Gala at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, CA, Vibe reports.
Entering the Grammy Hall Of Fame, “Reasonable Doubt” puts Jay-Z among esteemed company. Other works being inducted include albums and songs from Luther Vandross, Santana, Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine, Big Star, Clara Ward, Eddie Floyd, Emmylou Harris, Fela Kuti & Afrika 70, Geeshie Wiley, J.D. Crowe & The New South, and Linda Martell.
“It’s a privilege to recognize these eclectic recordings as the 2025 GRAMMY Hall Of Fame inductees,” Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason jr. voiced in a statement. “Music has the unique power to shape culture and mark moments in time. Each inducted recording reflects that spirit, and we’re excited to celebrate these impactful works, ensuring their legacies continue to inspire generations to come.”
“The GRAMMY Hall Of Fame serves as a vital bridge between music’s past and present, honoring recordings that have left a lasting mark on our cultural landscape,” added Michael Sticka, President/CEO of the GRAMMY Museum. “We’re proud to preserve and share these influential works at the annual GRAMMY Hall Of Fame Gala this spring.”

Released on June 25, 1996, “Reasonable Doubt,” is considered one of hip-hop’s greatest albums, with a high-powered roster of appearances from the Notorious B.I.G. (“Brooklyn’s Finest”), Memphis Bleek (“Coming of Age”), Mary J. Blige (“Can’t Knock the Hustle”), Jaz-O and Sauce Money (“Bring It On”) and Foxy Brown (“Ain’t No Ni**a”). Production on the album expanded the all-star vibe with beats provided by DJ Premier, Ski, Knobody, and Clark Kent.
Reflecting on “Reasonable Doubt” Clark Kent noted how “effortless” the offering was to create with the talent involved.
“I think that’s the reason why it was so good, because it was more, like, effortless,” he told SPIN during the album’s 20th anniversary year in 2016. “‘Yeah, we gon’ do it. We gon’ put this record out and we gon’ walk away.’ That’s what the plan was.”
