*We caught up with legendary hip-hop band Stetsasonic for a candid conversation about their remarkable career journey and enduring impact on the genre.
As pioneers of the genre, Stetsasonic emerged in the 1980s out of Brooklyn with their innovative blend of hip-hop and live instrumentation, influencing countless artists and shaping the sound of the era.
As noted by Hip Hop DX, Stetsasonic was founded by Daddy-O, Delite, and Crown Supreme, and later expanded to include Prince Paul, Wise The Human Mix Machine, DBC, drummer Bobby Simmons, and Frukwan. Following the release of three studio albums with Tommy Boy Records —”On Fire,” “In Full Gear,” and “Blood, Sweat & No Tears,” — the group disbanded in 1991, with Prince Paul making his mark with De La Soul, while Daddy-O pursued a solo career.
After a 33-year hiatus since their last album, Stetsasonic regrouped with MC Delite, Wise, Daddy-O, and Bobby Simmons to rekindle their creative energy and bring fresh music to their dedicated fans.
Stetsasonic celebrates a triumphant comeback with their latest album, “Here We Go Again,” marking a pivotal moment in their journey and solidifying their legacy in hip-hop history. Check out the official music video for the lead track below.
“I’ve been told that 33 years is the biggest hiatus between albums for any genre across the board,” the group told Parle. “The representation of a Phoenix rising from the ashes is an understatement. It represents a reset for ALL of classic Hip-Hop. In my opinion, the way to represent a reset is songs, records and albums. Here We Go Again is just that. Once again it’s on. An ode to our fans and the genre.”
