*Halle Berry has once again voiced her hope for another Black woman to win the Academy Award for Best Actress. I
In 2002, she made history as the first Black woman to receive the honor for her role in “Monster’s Ball.” However, more than two decades later, no other Black actress has won in the category, a fact Berry finds frustrating. She recently discussed the issue while appearing on Trevor Noah’s “What Now?“ podcast.
“Being born a Black woman, I feel like I have always felt like I sat at the bottom of society,” Berry said per Entertainment Weekly,
“White man, Black man, white woman, Black woman. So I’ve always felt at the bottom, never feeling like I was defeated because I was at the bottom, never feeling like I couldn’t dream big because I was at the bottom, never feeling like I wasn’t worthy or capable because I was at the bottom,” she continued.
“But I always have known that I’m going to have to work 10 times harder than everybody else to get anywhere,” Berry added.

Berry is hopeful that another Black woman to win the Oscar for Best Actress this year.
“I hope this year someone stands next to me. I hope it happens because I’m tired of occupying that space alone,” she said.
Cynthia Erivo is the only Black woman nominated in the Best Actress category for the 2025 Academy Awards, set to air next month. She is nominated for her role as Elphaba in “Wicked” and is up against a s Mikey Madison for “Anora,” Demi Moore for “The Substance,” Karla Sofia Gascón for “Emilia Pérez,” and “Fernanda Torres for “I’m Still Here.” See the full list of mommies HERE.
