According to the Economic Times, the product uses natural fatty acids—oleic acid and palmitoleic acid—to activate dormant fat cells beneath the skin surface, which then restart inactive hair follicles. This method mimics how the body naturally grows new hair after minor scrapes or inflammation.
Lead researcher Professor Sung-Jan Lin described the mechanism: mild skin disruption normally sparks both swelling and hair renewal; the fatty acids replicate that renewal process without causing harm. Preliminary lab work and small-scale tests on humans showed strong outcomes with no adverse effects, positioning the serum as a gentler replacement for synthetic hair-loss drugs. Results appeared in the journal Cell Metabolism.

“Skin injury not only induces tissue inflammation but also stimulates hair regeneration,” Lin explained. “Our research shows that fatty acids can achieve similar effects safely and effectively.”
In one early experiment, Lin rubbed the formula on his own thighs daily for three weeks and observed clear new hair growth. “I applied these fatty acids, dissolved in alcohol, on my thighs for three weeks and found it promoted hair regrowth,” he told New Scientist.
Separate tests on mice first used a mild irritant (sodium dodecyl sulfate) that produced hair in 10–11 days; the team then switched to the two fatty acids—common in human adipose tissue and vegetable oils—to eliminate any irritation.
Lin emphasized safety: “Oleic and palmitoleic acids are abundant in our bodies and in many plant oils, so they can be safely used.”
The university has secured a patent and is now organizing formal human trials to establish the best application amounts and confirm long-term reliability. Success would allow the serum to be sold without a prescription as an accessible treatment for baldness.
