*At the height of her 2010 “Whip My Hair” fame, 10-year-old Willow Smith made a stunning decision that left her father, Will Smith, reeling. While on a global tour with Justin Bieber, she declared she was done performing.
“We were in Dublin, Ireland. Willow comes off stage, she was on tour with Justin Bieber,” Will Smith recounted in the documentary “Number One on the Call Sheet: Black Leading Men in Hollywood,” per The Huffington Post. The young star told her father, “I’m done, Daddy.”
Will tried to reason with his daughter, reminding her of their commitment to the tour. “I was like, ‘Well, no ― you can’t go home, sweetie, you promised Mr. Jay-Z that you were gonna do these 30 days of this tour.’ She said, ‘No, Daddy, you promised Mr. Jay-Z,’” he recalled. Despite his insistence that she continue, Willow’s resolve was clear. “She looked at me ― I’ll never forget the look in her eyes — and she was like, ‘It doesn’t matter to you that I’m finished, Daddy?’” he shared.

The next morning, Willow’s rebellion took a dramatic form as the “King Richard” star said that “she had shaved her head bald.”
“My jaw nearly dislocated, dislodged and shattered on the kitchen floor: My world-dominating, hair-whipping, future global superstar was totally bald,” Will wrote in his 2021 memoir, recalling the moment she walked in saying, “Good morning, Daddy.”
In the documentary, he reflected, “In the middle of her ‘Whip My Hair’ tour, she had shaved her head bald. And it was like a magical moment. I was like, ‘Got it!’”
Speaking to PEOPLE in 2019 about the hair-shaving stunt, Willow said: “I was super young, and I had a dream, but all I really wanted to do was sing, and I didn’t equate that with all the business and the stress that ended up coming with it.” She added, “I was just like, ‘Whoa, this is not the life that I want,’” calling the head-shaving “the perfect way to rebel.”
