*Google has confirmed that AI features previously limited to paying customers will now be accessible to everyone.
AI Overviews, Help Me Write, and Suggested Replies will become universally available. “Today we’re bringing @Gmail into the Gemini era,” the company said, “making it a personal, proactive inbox assistant to help you manage your life, not just your messages. Explore the new features launching today, many of which are made possible by Gemini 3.”
Google emphasized that “as always, you’re in control, and can choose to turn these new @Gmail features on or off.” Enabling AI-powered email processing in Gmail allows Google’s Gemini to access and analyze your email content and metadata. For these features to work effectively, Gemini requires access to your entire inbox (not just selected messages). Google states that this processing occurs securely with built-in privacy protections, and human employees do not read your emails.
The technology organizes messages and recommends actions, transforming Gmail into a personal assistant designed to improve inbox management. Users can activate or deactivate these features, choosing between AI assistance or traditional functionality.

Additionally, Google now permits users to modify their primary Gmail address without creating a new account. We reported earlier that the company has rolled out a new option allowing Gmail users to replace their primary @gmail.com address while keeping all associated data and services intact.
As Cord Cutters News reports, this update addresses a long-standing frustration for those stuck with handles created years ago, often referencing embarrassing nicknames or phrases that no longer fit their professional or personal image. Previously, changing an address required creating a new account and manually transferring data, a cumbersome process prone to errors.
Eligible users can now select a new address through their account settings, with the old handle automatically converted into an alias. Emails sent to the original address continue to arrive in the same inbox, and users can sign in using either address for Gmail, YouTube, Drive, Maps, and other Google services.
This seamless transition preserves all stored content, including emails, documents, photos, subscriptions, and purchase histories. Users retain the ability to send messages from both addresses during the adjustment period, and older content may temporarily display the previous address without affecting functionality.
To prevent misuse, Google limits address changes to once per year, with reports suggesting a maximum of three lifetime changes per account. Once a new primary address is chosen, it cannot be deleted, ensuring that changes are intentional.
