*Dammit, here we go again. 🙁 Los Angeles Metropolitan Churches and a coalition of African-American faith and civil rights leaders are outraged by the racist and disturbing photo of a group of Cabrillo High School students, which is located in Long Beach CA, posting a picture of themselves spelling out “I love (the) N-word” inside the school gym during a senior assembly.
That picture shared publicly this week has been circulating on social media platforms and gone viral.
Civil rights organizations are demanding accountability and answers from Long Beach School District Superintendent Dr. Jill Baker.
The photo shows a row of students; the first two are wearing shirts with the letter “l” and a heart symbol.
Six students standing next to them had shirts with one letter each that spelled out a plural version of the N word spelled with one G.

Cabrillo High School and the LBUSD issued a joint statement Thursday night denouncing the “disturbing and offensive photo” as “unacceptable.”
“We sincerely apologize for the harm this has caused to our community,” part of the statement sent to parents and staff read.
The school district said it was “working with all relevant parties to ensure accountability.”
It wasn’t immediately clear who took the photo or where it was originally posted.

“To witness young students at a school assembly posting a picture of themselves spelling out we love the N-word is disgraceful and disturbing. We want to know from Superintendent Dr. Jill Baker how this was even allowed to happen. We look forward to meeting with her to understand how this happened and if any discipline was imposed on the students pictured in the racist photo, commented LA-based activist Najee Ali
The picture was taken at a school at a senior assembly. Cabrillo High School staff members allowed the students to pose and take the picture. The school senior assembly had to have school staff present.
Ali, Senior organizer of Los Angeles Metropolitan Churches, also added:
“This is a state of emergency! African American students and staff members in Southern California continue to experience acts of racism, racial slurs, and violence against them. Last week, a young African American female student was knocked unconscious by a Latino male student at Jehue Middle School in Colton. Additionally, Sal’Vyion Torres, a 13-year-old Black student, was viciously assaulted after school in an unprovoked attack by John Morreale, a white male parent in Chatsworth, CA, who was arrested in February and charged with a hate crime attack and felony assault charges.
“This growing uptick in racist attacks against African American students and staff members in Southern California must be spoken out against with concrete steps to ensure African American students and staff are protected from hate and violence. Dr. Jill Baker must meet with African American leaders, parents, students, and stakeholders to ensure that this never happens again.”
