
*The NAACP has unveiled the first group of honorees for the “57th NAACP Image Awards,” launching the celebration with a virtual presentation focused on literary and digital achievement. The opening night recognized winners in non-televised categories spanning books, short-form programming, and online content creation.
The three-night event streamed exclusively on YouTube via NAACPPlus and was hosted by Angel “ThatChickAngel” Laketa Moore and Khleo Thomas. Viewers were invited to tune in for an online showcase centered on culture, comedy, and Black excellence. The awards ceremony will culminate with a live broadcast airing February 28 at 8:00 PM ET/PT on BET and CBS.
Per the news release, in the literary categories, Michelle Obama earned Outstanding Literary Work – Biography/Autobiography for “The Look.” Juanita Tolliver received Outstanding Literary Work – Non-Fiction for “A More Perfect Party: The Night Shirley Chisholm & Diahann Carroll Reshaped Politics,” while Will Packer won Outstanding Literary Work – Instructional for “Who Better Than You?”

Michelle Obama – The LookAdditional book honors included Charles B. Fancher, named Debut Author for “Red Clay,” and Nnedi Okorafor, who secured Outstanding Literary Work – Fiction for “Death of the Author.” Patricia Smith claimed the Poetry award for “The Intentions of Thunder: New and Selected Poems,” and Allen R. Wells, alongside illustrator DeAndra Hodge, won in the Children’s category for “Yvonne Clark and Her Engineering Spark.”
Angie Thomas took home the Youth/Teens award for “Nic Blake and the Remarkables: The Book of Anansi,” while Octavia E. Butler’s “Parable of the Talents: A Graphic Novel Adaptation,” adapted by Damien Duffy and illustrated by John Jennings and David Brame, earned the Graphic Novel honor.
