*Music icon Smokey Robinson, 85, is at the center of a bombshell legal controversy after four women filed a $50 million lawsuit accusing him of rape, sexual assault, and workplace abuse. The women, who previously worked as housekeepers for Robinson and his wife, Frances Gladney, allege a disturbing pattern of abuse that they claim spanned nearly two decades.
The plaintiffs, referred to anonymously as Jane Doe 1 through Jane Doe 4 in the complaint, accuse Robinson of repeated sexual assaults that allegedly took place inside his Los Angeles area home from 2007 to 2024. The lawsuit also names his wife as a defendant, accusing her of knowingly allowing the alleged abuse and exploiting the women’s financial vulnerability to maintain control over them.
Speaking briefly by phone to the Daily Mail, Robinson responded to the lawsuit with a short statement: “I am appalled,” adding, “I can’t speak about this right now.”
As Page Six reports, citing court documents, the first woman claims she was employed at the Robinson household from January 2023 to February 2024 and was often scheduled to work when other staff were absent. Her allegations include graphic and violent sexual encounters. Per the complaint, Robinson “enjoyed ejaculating in her vagina without using a condom” and “roughly penetrate her vagina with his fingers, orally copulate her and proceed to penetrate her vagina with his erect penis causing her great pain.”
The second accuser, who reportedly worked for the singer between May 2014 and February 2020, alleges that Robinson assaulted her on at least 23 separate occasions. She describes being forced into a bedroom to perform oral sex and being raped without protection.

The third woman, who says she was employed from February 2012 to April 2024, alleges repeated sexual assaults, including being forced to lie face down on a towel before Robinson raped her from behind.
The fourth woman, who began as a housekeeper in 2006 and later served as Frances Robinson’s assistant, also accuses Robinson of rape. The accusers claim Frances turned a blind eye to her husband’s alleged behavior. They claim she failed to “take the appropriate corrective action to prevent [Smokey’s] deviant misconduct against”
“These women were targeted when Frances wasn’t home, cornered in rooms without surveillance, and attacked,” said John Harris, one of the attorneys representing the plaintiffs, during a press conference on Tuesday. “We believe that Mr. Robinson is a serial and sick rapist, and must be stopped.”
The lawsuit also alleges labor violations, including excessive working hours and insufficient pay. Attorney Herbert Hayden added that Frances Robinson played a role in perpetuating the abusive environment. “We believe she was aware of the misconduct by her husband, Smokey Robinson, and that she used their status as well as our clients’ reliance on their living wage in order to keep them in check,” he said.
According to the complaint, the women felt compelled to return to work after each incident due to financial necessity. “They all feared missing a payday and not being able to pay their rent or buy food for their families,” Harris said.
