*Welp! It looks like 52-year-old Busta Rhymes ain’t the only old-azz rapper accused of swingin’ on people as of late. Nope, rapper and actor Method Man, and a prominent member of the iconic Wu-Tang Clan, has also been accused of assaulting a family friend at a Crunch Fitness gym on Staten Island. His rep says he’s denying all the negative assertions.
According to law enforcement sources, Method Man, known off-stage as Clifford Smith, allegedly punched 28-year-old Patrick Sokoya in the face seven times during a confrontation linked to a past relationship Sokoya had with the rapper’s daughter over a decade ago.
The incident reportedly left Sokoya feeling dizzy, though he declined medical attention on-site. Following the altercation, a complaint was filed with the New York Police Department.
However, Method Man was not arrested, indicating that the investigation is still in its early stages, according to reports.
The rapper, now 53, like Rhymes, has had a history of legal issues. In 2007, he was caught with an ounce of marijuana in his vehicle leading to a run-in with law enforcement after being pulled over for an expired registration. In an earlier incident in 2009, Method Man faced a separate issue when he was brought to Staten Island Criminal Court for failing to file state income taxes from 2004 to 2007, racking up a debt of $32,799. At the time, he humorously attributed his tax evasion to his chronic marijuana use, stating, “Because I got high, I forgot to pay. It was stupid.”

Despite these past troubles, Method Man remains a celebrated figure in hip-hop culture, both as a member of Wu-Tang Clan and as a successful solo artist with over four million albums sold. His career also spans acting, showcasing his talent in over 130 credits on IMDb.
In response to the recent allegations, a representative for Method Man firmly denied the claims, stating:
“Mr. Smith categorically denies the allegations as reported and has not been the subject of an arrest by any law enforcement agency.”
As the legal situation unfolds, fans and the public alike are left to consider the implications of this incident in the life of one of hip-hop’s most recognizable figures.
Whether or not Method Man can distance himself from this latest controversy remains to be seen, as more details surface regarding the altercation.
