*Rapper Busta Rhymes is grappling with serious allegations after being hit with three assault charges on Tuesday for an incident involving his assistant.
Following an altercation that reportedly stemmed from his assistant’s use of a cellphone during work, law enforcement sources revealed that Rhymes, whose real name is Trevor Tahiem Smith Jr., punched the 50-year-old man multiple times in the face. The violent episode left the assistant with noticeable swelling in his left eye.
The incident took place on January 10 inside the upscale J Condominium complex in Dumbo, Brooklyn. Following the altercation, Rhymes turned himself in to the authorities, facing charges of misdemeanor assault, attempted assault, and harassment. Authorities issued him a desk appearance ticket (DAT), which requires him to appear in court on February 2 to address the charges.
While the details surrounding the incident are still unfolding, Dashiel Gables, the alleged victim, declined to comment when reached by The Post, stating that his lawyer had advised him against speaking to the press.
This latest incident adds to a growing list of legal troubles that the Grammy-nominated artist has faced over the years. Busta Rhymes has had prior brushes with the law, with a history that includes weapon and assault charges, as well as traffic violations.

In 2007, he pleaded guilty to a DWI after being pulled over for erratic driving in Manhattan. More recently, he made headlines for throwing a protein drink at an employee at a Chelsea gym in 2015 and a separate incident last year where he splashed a beverage on a fan who smacked him, the NY Post noted.
Rhymes, known for his hit songs such as “Break Ya Neck” and “Woo Hah!! Got You All in Check,” continues to navigate the repercussions of his actions both as an influential figure in hip-hop and as an individual facing serious legal scrutiny. The next court date will determine the course of action following this troubling incident, as fans and the media remain vigilant for updates on the rapper’s ongoing legal situation.
