*Kim Kardashian has urged California Governor Gavin Newsom to raise the wages of incarcerated firefighters who are risking their lives to combat the destructive Los Angeles wildfires.
The fires, fueled by intense 100 mph wind gusts, forced the Kardashian family—including Kourtney, Khloé, Rob, Kendall, Kylie, and Kris Jenner—to evacuate their homes in Pacific Palisades.
“On all 5 fires in Los Angeles, there are hundreds of incarcerated firefighters, risking their lives to save us,” the reality star wrote on her Instagram Stories Saturday night, Page Six reports.
“They are on the Palisades fire and Eaton fire in Pasadena working 24 hour shifts. They get paid almost nothing, risk their lives, some have died, to prove to the community that they have changed and are now first responders. I see them as heroes.”
The mother of four noted that incarcerated firefighters are being paid $1 an hour, which has remained unchanged since 1984, and urged Newsom to raise the pay to a rate that honors their work.

“It has never been raised with inflation. It’s never been raised when fires got worse and many died,” Kim wrote.
Kardashian explained that a recent agreement to raise incarcerated firefighters’ pay to $5 an hour was “shot down last minute.”
“I am urging [Newsom] to do what no Governor has done in 4 decades, and raise the incarcerated firefighter pay to a rate [that] honors a human being risking their life to save our lives and homes,” she continued.
The Kardashian family supported the community by donating meals to local fire stations and providing clothing and essentials to wildfire-affected families.
In her post, Kim thanked firefighters at the Ventura Training Center for providing rehabilitation and job training skills to help formerly incarcerated firefighters qualify for entry-level firefighting jobs after they are released from prison.
“Due to bills passed by @antirecidivismcoalition, these guys can now get their sentences reduced, expunging the felonies from their records for their fire service,” she wrote. “And when they come home can get six figure jobs working for the fire departments.”
Meanwhile, Governor Newsom has declared a state of emergency, with over 100,000 residents forced to leave their homes.
