*Over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, Keke Palmer and SZA’s buddy comedy “One of Them Days” topped the North American box office, earning $11.6 million from 2,675 theaters. This historic achievement marks the first Black female-led theatrical comedy since 2017’s Girls Trip.
The R-rated buddy comedy produced by Issa Rae landed the number one spot in the U.S. following its Jan. 17 release. The movie, which marks SZA’s feature film debut, centers on two best friends and roommates in Los Angeles who must come up with rent money after one of their boyfriends takes their cash. “When they discover Alyssa’s boyfriend has blown their rent money, the duo finds themselves going to extremes in a comical race against the clock to avoid eviction and keep their friendship intact,” the synopsis states, per PEOPLE. Palmer and her mother executive produced the film, directed by Lawrence Lamont.
“The world is about to be just gagged,” Palmer told the publication of SZA’s performance in “One of Them Days.” “Honestly, it’s so, so good,” she said. “It’s all, to me, a match made in heaven.”
“[SZA] freaking killed it,” Rae told the outlet.

“Watching [SZA] show up and be present and wanting to do the best job possible – and actually doing it – it just made sense and it all fit together,” Rae added.
“I’m trying something brand new,” SZA said.
“All I can do is try my best, you know, and thank God for the opportunity and just kinda lean into and accept it as a growing experience. I have tons of fears of being perceived on camera, talking, my voice, being next to Keke, who’s a superstar of so many multitudes,” she continued.
Meanwhile, in April, SZA will embark on her Grand National Tour with Kendrick Lamar.
