*Sade Perkins, a former member of Houston’s Food Insecurity Board, was dismissed following a series of inflammatory TikTok videos where she described Camp Mystic, a Texas summer camp ravaged by floods, as a “white-only, conservative Christian camp.”
As the Daily Mail reports, the remarks, posted shortly after the July 4 disaster in Hunt, Texas, sparked outrage as the community mourned the loss of at least 27 people, both children and counselors, with seven girls from the camp among the deceased and 11 others still missing.
In her initial video, Perkins anticipated backlash, stating, “I know I’m going to get cancelled for this, but Camp Mystic is a white-only girls’ Christian camp.” She further claimed the camp lacked diversity, asserting, “They don’t even have a token Asian. They don’t have a token black person.”
Perkins claimed that the public and media response to the Camp Mystic tragedy would be indifferent if the victims were from marginalized groups. “If it was Hispanic kids or LGBTQ kids that got swept away, y’all wouldn’t give a f**k, and them same MAGA people would be saying they deserve it and that it’s God’s will,” she said in her video, alleging that the attention and sympathy would be absent for non-white or non-conservative victims.
Perkins escalated her comments by blaming President Donald Trump, Texas Governor Greg Abbott, and Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick for the tragedy, calling it “totally preventable” and attributing the flood to failures by the National Weather Service and FEMA, orchestrated “by design” by state and federal officials.

Houston Mayor John Whitmire condemned Perkins’ statements, emphasizing their insensitivity amid ongoing grief. “The comments shared on social media are deeply inappropriate and have no place in decent society, especially as families grieve the confirmed deaths and the ongoing search for the missing,” Whitmire said. He clarified that Perkins, appointed by former Mayor Sylvester Turner in 2023 with a term ending in January 2025, was not a city employee and confirmed immediate steps to remove her from the board permanently.
Unfazed by the mayor’s rebuke, Perkins stood by her remarks, defiantly stating, “The video is still up and I still stand behind – 10 toes down on the motherf***ing ground. That s**t is racism and white supremacy, period.” She also criticized Whitmire directly, calling him “a piece of s**t.”
The mayor’s office reiterated that Perkins would not be reappointed. Meanwhile, Perkins has escalated tensions with a new video. Posted from a shooting range, she captioned it, “To anyone who think’s it might be a good idea to come to my address. I got a bag of tricks waiting,” signaling a defiant and threatening response to her critics.
