*A fan who directed a cruel taunt at Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte has been banned from all Major League Baseball stadiums across the United States, following an emotional incident during a game against the Chicago White Sox at Rate Field.
As SandraRose.com reports, the episode unfolded in the seventh inning of the D-Backs’ 4–1 victory Tuesday night. While Marte was at bat, a spectator reportedly shouted a comment about his late mother, Elipidia Valdez, who passed away in a 2017 car accident in the Dominican Republic.
Video from the game captured a visibly shaken Marte breaking down in tears on the field. His teammates gathered around to console him, while D-Backs manager Torey Lovullo erupted at the fan from the dugout. “You dumb f***, his mom died, you dumb f***!” Lovullo shouted, demanding that stadium security remove the heckler.
Following the incident, both MLB and the White Sox organization issued an indefinite ban, barring the individual from attending games at any major league venue.
Lovullo, speaking postgame, didn’t hold back. “It was a terrible moment,” he said. “Fans are nasty, and fans go too far. I love my players, and I’m going to protect them.” He added, “At the end of the day, we’re human beings and we have emotions. I saw him hurting, and I wanted to protect him.”
