*Cedric the Entertainer isn’t hiding his disappointment that CBS has opted not to move forward with “The Neighborhood” spinoff featuring Sheaun McKinney and Marcel Spears. While the decision wasn’t entirely unexpected given the current climate in the television industry, the actor and executive producer still hoped for a different outcome.
“I do recognize that we’re in a very difficult time as far as television goes,” Cedric told TVLine. He explained that the show’s creative team was enthusiastic about the project, even crafting the pilot within an episode of “The Neighborhood” to help launch the concept. Still, he admitted that networks are tightening their budgets. “They’re not spending a lot of money… we thought we did a great job, but ultimately there wasn’t enough room in the budget.”
The now-shelved spinoff, set for a potential 2025–26 debut, would have followed Malcolm and Marty Butler as they leave their parents’ home and settle in Venice Beach, a neighborhood close in distance, but vastly different in culture. Though the series won’t go forward, the pilot will still air as part of “The Neighborhood’s” Season 7 finale on Monday, May 5 at 8:30/7:30c.
“I was a little disappointed, for sure,” Cedric admitted. However, he’s hopeful audiences will see the episode and respond positively. “I want everybody to write in [to CBS], because I think people are going to see this season finale and be, like, ‘That’s a great show! Y’all should do that show!’”
Despite the setback, Cedric is looking ahead. He’s gearing up for “Crutch,” a new multi-cam comedy coming to Paramount+ this fall, starring Tracy Morgan as Francois “Frank” Crutchfield. Cedric and Tichina Arnold will appear in guest roles, and Max Greenfield will also make a cameo.

“We shot eight episodes,” Cedric revealed. “We put together a really great cast, and it was fun to do some guest appearances. We’re going to air it some time in the fall, and we’re excited about that.”
Outside of entertainment, Cedric and his Kyles Family Foundation are teaming with Alfa Romeo & FIAT of Glendale and The Brotherhood Crusade to support families impacted by the Altadena wildfires, including donating FIAT 500e vehicles to those who lost everything.
